Just as my Millennial generation (and older) recalls a life before the internet, future generations will reminisce about a time when AI wasn’t an integral part of their daily lives.
It’s astounding to think about how much the world has changed since the advent of the internet. For those of us who lived in a time before the World Wide Web, we remember the slower pace of life, when face-to-face interactions and landline phone calls were the norm. As we share our experiences of life before the internet with younger generations, they, too, will have their own stories to tell – the days before Artificial Intelligence became an indispensable part of their lives.
The parallel is striking – just as we reminisce about a time before the internet, our children will look back on the years when AI was still in its infancy. They will share memories of the pre-AI era when assistants like ChatGPT and Google Bard wasn’t a household term yet.
As conversational AI continues to advance, it is set to replace most of the services we currently use and will be supplemented by visualization when necessary. This new world will see AI assistants that understand our needs and provide tailored solutions, eliminating the need for manual research and human customer service representatives who may not grasp our requirements.
In the future, just as we often find our selves today, the pre-AI era seniors will serve as witnesses for technological progress. The younger generations will listen in awe as our kids tell tales of slow 4G connections, time spent manually searching through the internet for answers, and the limitations of human-driven processes.
As we stand on the cusp of an AI-driven future, it’s essential to acknowledge the tremendous progress we have made. With each generation comes new technological advancements, and the leap from a world without the internet to a world before AI is truly a testament to human innovation.
As we carefully embrace the AI revolution, let’s take a moment to appreciate the journey we’ve taken and look forward to the stories we’ll share with future generations about the world before AI became an integral part of our lives. And hopefully we can look back and be certain we did not loose something important along the way.
